Who we are
One veteran teacher. One ed reform policy wonk and lawyer. Both parents. Ed researchers. Eyewitnesses who identified the most neglected variable for student success.
What we do
We keenly design spaces for families to engage in educational interactions rooted in literacy. We use fun with art & music to support children expanding their imaginations, critical thinking skills, thought articulation, literacy development, & writing acumen. We write curriculum, design programs, and chair events that brings communities of families together to illuminate the wonder of literacy – like the Lit with Families Texas Family Literacy Festival, the first statewide family literacy festival in the nation. We champion fun family learning!
What we believe
We believe the most neglected, or at times missing, variable in the equation for education reform is strategic family engagement. Our strategy optimizes Story Square creativity to build language and literacy skills, families, and communities. We believe that our work acts as a bridge. It fills a void between overburdened schools & under-resourced, oft-times undervalued families. We believe both – the traditional education community and families – want the best for each student. But schools’ scarce resources and families lack of understanding & knowing where or how to serve as their child’s resource for educational growth limit them both. We believe that Story Square’s committed focus on bringing these two cornerstones, family – the most vulnerable, critical, intimate system tangential to our students, and literacy – the cornerstone for thriving and progress, together at just the right angle, will squarely make a world of difference and the future different for our world!
